LOM and mavericks

Nicola Lomartire
Hi all,

is there any way, maybe using third-party tools, to use LOM on xserve running OSX Mavericks and Server app (3.0.2)?

I tried ipmitool via CLI but it says me that I can’t connect to BCM without any clue…

thanks in advance

My guess is that LoM isn’t configured/initialized at all on the machine using Mavericks and therefor doesn’t respond.

I would suggest to boot 10.6 from another (external) disk and try to configure LoM using Server Monitor.
Once you set an IP address, user and password for LoM IPMITools might work from within Mavericks.

Bye, jan

Due to my lack of knowledge in OSX sys-administration (I started "putting my hands on" server version since 10.7.x), I think that there's some piece of software/daemon/leprechaun that actually starts the LOM software part: indeed, the ipmitool says me

"Unabled to establish a session with the BMC.
Command failed due to Unknown (0xFFFEF92C) (0xFFFEF92C)"

maybe it's "only" a kext missing?

thanks in advance for replies

Re: LOM and mavericks

Stuart Ramdeen (Toucan)
I realise it's not Mavericks, but LOM works fine for me on my 10.8.5 Xserves:

domino:~ root# ipmitool -H 192.168.2.253 -U lomadmin chassis status
Password:
System Power         : on
Power Overload       : false
Power Interlock      : inactive
Main Power Fault     : false
Power Control Fault  : false
Power Restore Policy : always-off
Last Power Event     :
Chassis Intrusion    : inactive
Front-Panel Lockout  : inactive
Drive Fault          : false
Cooling/Fan Fault    : true
Front Panel Light    : off

Using ipmitool on both 10.6 and 10.8 machines. For the 10.8 box, I just copied the binary from 10.6's /usr/bin/

It goes without saying that the lom interface was configured with Server Monitor under 10.6 many years ago, but I imagine you could use ipmitool lan set to accomplish the same thing.
